Former journalist to lead the Social Democrats

Former journalist Håkan Juholt was on Thursday nominated to lead the opposition Social Democrats in Sweden. During a relaxed press conference Juholt declared he believes in a victory at the next election. Juholt is the only one nominated for the party leader position and will be formally elected during a special party congress in the end of March. He would then succeed Mona Sahlin, who resigned after the party suffered their worst election in almost a century, in September 2010.
