Golf outing with helicopter audience

The Nordic Business Alliance golf outing organized by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce took place in Castleknock Golf Club on 20 May. We were blessed with a beautiful day with gorgeous views over the Liffey valley. Six groups of players enjoyed a great afternoon.

The tranquility of the round was somewhat disturbed by the throbbing of the engines of five enormous helicopters which appeared in the skies. The choppers passed over the course on three occasions. Some suggested that the helicopters were on a training exercise as part of the preparations for the visit of President Obama that weekend. Others suggested that they kept returning so impressed were they by the quality of our play!

One player in particular undoubtedly played extremely well. Anthony Keogh playing off 11 won first prize of 37 points. He also won the longest drive and the nearest the pin competition. Philip Murphy (24) also had a very impressive score with 37 and lost on the count back. Other notable scores were 36 points for John Dunne (25), 33 points for Aideen Hughes (13), 33 points for Donal O’Leary (13), 33 points for Peter Kearney playing off 16 and 33 points for Brendan Murphy playing off 18. The best lady prize went to Eimear Branigan playing off 24.

We had a very enjoyable meal afterwards. The consensus was that we should return to Castleknock next year but hopefully on a day where the double rotors of Chinook helicopters are not rumbling in the sky above our heads.
